Swash Ball was created during a family trip to a popular SC beach. Like most people, we share a love for the beach. You know the type… awake at 7 AM to set up the 10x10 with no thoughts of taking it down until sundown. If we aren’t in the water enjoying the waves we’re on the beach playing some sort of competitive game.
As much as we love the beach no one enjoys lugging all the necessities...especially heavy beach games. And when it comes to beach games, always having to measure to see who is “closest to the target” takes all the fun out of playing.
So on a recent beach trip, we took aspects of popular games, typically played in backyards and arcades, and created our very own beach game...The result was Swash Ball!
We simply made three holes in the sand and assigned a point value to each one. Standing behind a line we literally drew in the sand, we divided up into teams and took turns rolling the balls into the holes for points.
We had so much fun that we regretted not coming up with the idea earlier. We knew we were onto something when random people approached us to ask about the game. When we returned to the beach house that evening, it was a unanimous decision that Swash Ball had to be made into a game for all families to enjoy… and that is when the real work started.
